Q: How do I change my humidifier pad?
- Determine make and model of humidifier. The following instructions are the same for the following brands ("Flow-Through / Drain Type Models"): Honeywell, April Aire, Herrmidifier, Trion, and General.
- Equipment needed: Phillips screwdriver, trash can, sponge, and soapy water.
- Turn OFF humidistat mounted on the duct (or upstairs by thermostat). Most of the time-looks like a horizontal mounted thermostat. SEE ** note at bottom.
- Find the screw on the front cover and unscrew it, counter-clock-wise. If humidifier is a fan-powered model, unplug the plastic (or molex) plug on the front.
- Remove the cover, from bottom first. If fan-powered unit, you may need someone to hold the cover because the water line or wiring is still attached.
- Humidifier pad is in the plastic frame. Remove the whole frame, making note of how the tray frame fits together. Take the top reservoir tray off and slide the pad out. Throw old pad away.
- Wipe down the plastic parts and the inside of the humidifier with sponge and lightly soapy water.
- Take new pad and slide into frame and put the reservoir tray back on top.
- Slide the entire panel back in place, making sure the reservoir tray slides into slots on each side at the top.
- Replace cover from top, replace screw, and "plug in" plastic plug.
- Check drain tube connection to make sure it is wired into floor drain securely.
- Turn humidistat back on. SET IT AT 35% relative humidity ONLY! You will hear it click on. Wait a few minutes and you should see and hear water start trickling through the drain tube at bottom of unit.
- Check periodically and if white flaky powder is on the pad
it needs to be replaced again.
We recommend changing pads twice per year, once on start up in the fall and once along about January / February!!
**If needed: To turn off water supply: Follow the 1/4" copper tubing from the humidifier to where it connects to the saddle valve. Turn the "T" on the saddle valve clock-wise until it is completely "tight". To turn back on: Turn counter-clock-wise until completely "Tight-ON"! DO NOT TWIST saddle valve or torque too much as it can break!
