Air Conditioner Service in Cleveland, OH

Over Time, Your System May Start to Leak Refrigerant

An air conditioner is a “closed” system, meaning it doesn’t run out of refrigerant. If you need a recharge, that means you have some sort of leak in your system. Some people choose to have their Freon recharged rather than having a leak fixed. While this is an option, of course, it is also a temporary fix. Sooner or later you’ll either need another recharge or have your leak repaired.

If you have an older unit that has developed a leak, you may want to consider having it replaced. New systems do not use Freon (R-22 refrigerant), but rather R-410A refrigerant. The reason is that Freon damages the environment and is being phased out. Because it is not being produced in the same quantity as before, the price is going up substantially. When you combine the increased price with the fact that it will become more and more scarce, keeping an older system recharged continually will be less and less cost effective. You aren’t required to buy a new system, but you’ll want to do all you can to make sure your present one is properly maintained.

Give Arco a call today if your air conditioner ever fails to properly cool your home.
