What Type of AC is Best?

We’ve been discussing air conditioners a lot lately, mostly because we’re making the transition into the hot summer season. People have shed their winter layers and are now swapping sweaters for short sleeves.

It’s nice that we can wear our summer gear and feel good outside, but hanging out comfortably indoors can be a little more tricky.

If you don’t already have air conditioning in your home, the very first thing you need to do is decide whether or not you even need it!

You may be the type of person who absolutely loves the heat, and being sweaty is all fine and dandy for you. In which case, you might be able to make it through the summer just by opening a few windows and using fans to circulate the air.

Some of us don’t have the luxury of making these decisions all on our own. When you have a family to take care of, their comfort as a whole should be your first priority.

Even though not having an AC makes sense if you really want to pinch pennies, it’s more practical to have some kind of air conditioner in your home. You may not have to use it all the time, but when the heat sets in and you decide to turn it on, you’ll be glad that you have it at your disposal.

So the question still stands: what type of Air Conditioner is best?

Consider how large your house is. If you live alone, then it may be more frugal to buy a window unit for your bedroom. You can stay cool overnight, but you won’t have to pay to keep the whole place chilled.

If you’ve got people staying in different rooms of the home, it will make more sense to install a central air unit. First of all, doing so will definitely improve the market value of your home. People naturally find central air to be an attractive feature!

Secondly, cooling an entire home with window units is not very practical. You’ll find yourself spending far too much on your energy bill, and keeping a consistent temperature throughout is nearly impossible to do with this method.

There are many different pros and cons to both window units and central air cooling. It’s up to you and your family to decide what will work best for you. If money is your biggest concern, remember the long-term benefits of installing central air.

If keeping comfortable is more important, well, central air will probably be more effective in that arena as well, but the installation costs of a central air unit can be high, so you should feel confident that the investment is going to pay off.
