These days you don’t even need to look out to know winter has certainly arrived in all its frigid and frosty glory. Chances are you can still feel it even if you are safely ensconced indoors. And as temperatures
begin to head below freezing outdoors, you’ll want to make sure they aren’t doing the same inside your home! All Ohioans will agree that there is not much worse than coming in from the cold only to realize
your furnace isn’t working or has been blowing cold air into your home. So keep an eye out for these 5 warning signs that your furnace is struggling and needs repairs if it’s going to be any help at all
this winter:
1. You have a difficult time getting it started.
Furnace repairs that might need to happen in order to correct this problem include thermostat replacement, rewiring of faulty connections, pilot light repair or blower motor replacement.
2. Chilly rooms and ice issues.
If cold air seems to be constantly drafting through your house, it is likely that your furnace isn’t functioning at full capacity anymore. If you notice ice is forming on your roof, it can be a sign of furnace trouble because the heat from your home is leaking up through your attic as opposed to staying down in the living areas where it belongs.
3. Your indoor air quality is on the decline.
If your furnace is in need of repairs, you might notice a rise in breathing-related troubles among your home’s residents. These can often include asthma, allergies, dry nasal passages and more uncomfortable problems. A furnace that is not running properly could be forcing dust, mold and other irritants
into the air that circulates throughout your home.
4. Condensation.
If you’re noticing more condensation than usual on the inside of windows and doors, a furnace repairs might your best course of action. You won’t know for sure until you get an Arco heating technician
out to your house to check things out.
5. Your furnace is more than 15 years old.
The average life of a furnace is between 10 and 20 years, with a high end unit lasting into the upper end of that range. If your furnace is more than 15 years, it is time for some major repairs and maintenance. Or better yet, just start planning for a furnace replacement sooner rather than later.
