When you own a home, problems can happen at any time, and any time can include after regular business hours. Whether it’s a sudden emergency that causes your heater to fail, or you face an issue which could even present danger to your home, including electrical failures within your furnace or air conditioner, you need a team who can come to your home quickly and get the issue resolved. Sometimes, waiting can lead to disastrous results and that’s’ why we believe you shouldn’t have to.
We were recently dispatched out to one of our customers’ homes after-hours in Macedonia for a furnace repair. Upon arrival, our technician discovered the Bryant furnace was not running. After a brief search, they discovered the problem was being caused by an extreme buildup of dirt in the furnace filter, on the blower motor, and in the blower wheel. The dirt in these locations caused a lot of additional friction, which resulted in the furnace failing and shutting down.
After a brief inspection, we informed the customer what we had found and got to work with implementing a cost-effective repair solution. Before long, our technician was able to get the furnace firing again, creating much-needed heat to keep the home warm. To fix the issue, they performed a deep cleaning on the furnace, including getting into a lot of the smaller areas in the blower motor and wheel. We also went in and changed the air filter in the system, as this was the most likely cause for all of the dirt and debris in the blower motor and wheel as well!
The importance of changing your air filter cannot be understated. In fact, the overwhelming majority of problems with your furnace can be traced back to a dirty or clogged air filter. Your air filter is responsible for straining things like dirt, dust, pet hair, dander, pollen, bacteria, and more out of the air that enters your heating and cooling system. This prevents this debris from wreaking havoc on your equipment and stops it from being blown throughout your home where it can trigger allergy attacks and other health problems. A dirty air filter also dramatically reduces heating and cooling efficiency, which means you’ll spend more keeping your home comfortable than you otherwise should have.
If you’re looking for a simple way to save money, check your air filter regularly and change it as necessary. Most homes should replace their air filter every two to three months, and some more often than that.
Likewise, regular furnace tune-ups keeps your equipment clean and prevent unnecessary breakdowns, which always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times. A maintenance service includes cleaning out these important areas in your furnace, which keeps it running smoothly and you living comfortably all winter long. Make sure to have your furnace checked and tuned-up annually by a licensed Cleveland heating professional!
